On Saturday, January 19, 2011, Campbell High School volunteers served at the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl at McEachern High School. Members of the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl, a new literacy club at Campbell, read Georgia Peach Award teen fiction. Clubs from schools throughout Cobb County then answered questions at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. The winner of Saturday's event, Walton High School, will now represent Cobb County at the district competition at the University of West Georgia.
Because the Campbell club has just started, members helped with jobs such as timekeeping and selling food this year. Campbell High School members are planning to compete next year.
The Campbell club has purchased a timekeeping machine to practice for next year.
Mrs. Helen Ruffin was a Dekalb county media specialist who founded the literarcy program in 1985.
