Enrollment/Course Registration for the IB Class of 2017

Congratulations, again, to the IB Class of 2017! By selecting the IB Diploma Program, you are joining an elite group of students in the world, and we are excited to work with you over the next four years.

In order to place you in the appropriate courses next year, we will have Enrollment/Course Selection on April 2 and April 3 from 5:00 - 7:30 PM.  You may select which night works better for your family, and come to the school's Media Center where you will meet with us to choose your classes for next year.  Print Download Rising 9th Grade 2013 to review the courses (particularly electives), and bring it with you.

Students who already attend a CCSD middle school will automatically enroll at CHS, so there is no additional paperwork for you to complete.

Students coming from private school or outside of the district need to visit CCSD Enrollment to get information regarding enrollment in public school.  Forms JBC-5, JBC-7, and JBC-9 are required.  Make sure to bring as many copies/documents as possible so we can enroll your student soon.  If you are missing something, just let me know, and we will go from there.  Also be sure to print Download Rising 9th Grade 2013 so we can review your course options together.

Parent Volunteers for Exams

The exam season begins this week, and parents who are interested in volunteering can assist on the following days/times:

Thursday, May 2nd: 8:00 - 10:00 or 11:45 - 2:00

Friday, May 3rd: 8:00 - 11:00 or 11:45 - 2:00

Wednesday, May 8th: 11:45 - 2:30

Thursday, May 9th: 7:45 - 11:00 or 11:45 - 1:30

Friday, May 10th: 7:45 - 10:00

Thursday, May 16th: 7:45 - 11:30

AP Exam Study Sessions

Into the Wild: IB Senior Retreat

Students and faculty sponsors ventured to Amicalola Falls this weekend for the IB Senior Retreat. Pictured below are some of the brave souls who are battling the elements for three days of fun in the woods!

 Up next for this group are the IB Senior Field Trip and Prom (and maybe a few exams in May).

AP Exam Registration Deadline Extended

In an effort to make sure all students have the opportunity to register for AP exams, we are extending the deadline to register and pay until Tuesday, March 26th at 3:00 PM.  After that point, we cannot accept any further registration forms/payments.  If you need to download forms, scroll down to the posting from Feb 27th which has the schedule and registration sheet.  If you have questions, please contact Mr. Penick or call the IB/AP Office at 678-842-6856.

Course Selection/Registration

All current Campbell students will participate in course selection/registration for the 2013-2014 school year on Monday, March 25 and Tuesday, March 26.  IB students will follow the same timeline, and Mr. Penick will meet with each student to review his or her course options/selections for next year.  To review the classes, you can view the IB Curriculum Scope and Sequence on our website.  If you have any questions, please email Mr. Penick.

Incoming CHS IB students (the class of 2017) will conduct course selection/registration on April 2nd or 3rd from 4:30 - 7:30 PM in the Media Center.  More information will be available next week regarding this process.

CHS/IB Students Attending Governor's Honors Program

Congratulations to the CHS/IB students selected for this summer's Governor's Honors Program!  After interviewing at the school, county, and state level, our students were awarded the opportunity to attend the prestigious program for the state's most advanced students at Valdosta State University.  We have students who will  participate in Communicative Arts, French, Spanish, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Visual Art.  CHS and IB are proud of you all for this great accomplishment! 

Odyssey of the Mind Places 2nd at Regional

Congratulations to CHS IB students Will Coleburn, Jacob Moretensen, and Nicholas Ross who participated in the Odyssey of the Mind regional competition over the weekend!  With a second place finish, the team will advance to the state competition in April.

Student Spotlight: STAR Student Andrea Cooper

Congratulations to CHS IB senior Andrea Cooper for being named STAR Student.  Andrea earned a perfect score of 2400 on her SAT, and she moves on to the state STAR program in April as one of only seven students who will be considered.  She selected Mrs. Melyn Roberson, IB Spanish instructor, as her STAR Teacher.  In addition to this award, Andrea is also a national semi-finalist for the Presidential Scholarship.

Outside of her academic pursuits, Andrea has focused on community service and leadership development through  interesting and valuable programs during her career as an IB student.  She has been a Zoo Atlanta Volunteer for 3 years, a Lockheed Martin Intern in 11^th grade, a member of Habitat for Humanity for 4 years, and a delegate for the Model UN team for 4 years.  Andrea was selected for the Governor's Honors Program in Communicative Arts, she attended the StarTalk Mandarin Chinese Program (6 week immersion program) at the University of Mississippi, and she attended Leadership & Military Training Courses at both West Point and Annapolis.

Andrea is currently considering a host of excellent options for her college career.  She already has acceptances from a number of fine institutions, including Dartmouth, Duke (A.B. Duke Scholarship), Univ of Penn, William & Mary, UNC Chapel Hill (Morehead-Cain Scholars program), GaTech, UGA (Foundation Fellow Scholarship), and Tulane.  In addition, she's waiting to hear from a number of Ivy League schools (Harvard, Yale, Princeton) and a few other universitites (Georgetown, Vanderbilt, UC-Berkely) before making her final decision.

We congratulate Andrea on her remarkable achievements and the contribution she has made to the legacy of excellence at CHS IB!

Campbell Math Team Wins Tournament

Congratulations to the Campbell Math Team for winning the Cobb County Winter Tournament! Our top three students scored among the best 10 in all of Cobb County. Ben Chen finished second, Matthias Wilder in fourth, and Carson Kelley in eighth. Go Math Spartans!

Open House for Accepted Students is Tonight, March 19th

Congratulations to those students who have been admitted into CHS IB for next year!  We will host an informational Open House for Accepted Students on Tuesday, March 19^th from 6:30 - 8:00 PM in the Livingston Auditorium at Campbell High School. Teachers, current students/parents, and CHS IB alumni will be here to discuss their experiences and to answer your questions about our program and school.  If you are unable to attend, please contact Dan Penick, IB Coordinator, to schedule another time to visit the school.  We look forward to seeing all of you soon as members of CHS IB!
