Resource Database for Families

I want to take a minute to tell you about an incredible resource available to the community! In conjunction with the Success for all Students Program the Cobb County School Social Work department has launched an electronic resource database! There are close to 1,000 agencies and resources available to school staff, parents and the community at large instantly!

The database has a Cobb County focus but it does list out-of-district resources as well. While we are still here to help parents with access to the internet can now access resources from the privacy of their own computers.

To access these resources, visit http://www.cobbk12.org/familyresources and you can search by service type, agency name or zip code.

Project Connect

We are pleased to announce that the Project CONNECT group, which focuses primarily on smoking cessation with high school students, will be returning to Campbell High School this semester. Project CONNECT started at Campbell last year and was an overwhelming success, with over 200 students signing up. Sign up for Project CONNECT will begin on August 19, 2011 in the cafeteria as well as in the social work office. If students and/or parents are interested in receiving additional information regarding Project CONNECT, please contact Ana Murphy, School Social Worker, or Bethany Bell, School Social Work Intern at (678) 842-6850, extension 311.

The number of applications accepted each day will be limited.
Registration may close earlier than 4 pm, depending on the number of people
waiting to be screened.
Applicants must be low income and live in Cobb County. Cobb Christmas
applicants must have dependent children living in the household with them.
We will not be able to verify benefits with DFCS. All applicants must bring the
following documents:
• Picture ID such as a driver’s license for the applicant;
• Social Security cards or birth certificates for all household members;
• Written verification of all household income for the previous 4 weeks such as
check stubs or letter from employer on letterhead;
• Written verification of all unearned income such as TANF, unemployment,
workman’s comp, Social Security, SSI, or child support, etc.; and
• Verification of residency in Cobb such as a lease, utility bill in your name, etc.

what does your school social worker do...

Hi there! My name is Ana Murphy and I serve as your school social worker. I am assigned to Campbell High School and Osborne High School.

As the school social worker:

* I provide assistance to students and their families that may benefit from some assistance. I can provide them with referrals to agencies that can help with eyeglasses, dentist, financial assistance, food, clothing, school supplies.

* I work with students and their parent/guardian in regards to truancy.

* I work very closely with the administrators, parents and school counselors.

* At the high school I work very closely with the graduation coach to reduce the number of students who drop out.
